RPP Nepal's Kamal Thapa: Advocating for a Harmonious Democracy with Monarchy

KATHMANDU: Kamal Thapa, the Chairman of RPP Nepal, has expressed that genuine democrats need not be concerned about the prospect of a king's return. He highlighted that the populace is not in search of a substitute for democracy, but rather a version of democracy that can exist alongside a monarchy.

In a recent social media update, Thapa clarified that the challenge is not to democracy itself, but to the existing political framework, which he criticized for being plagued by “tyranny, syndicate governance, and exploitation under the guise of democracy.”

He emphasized that citizens are yearning for a form of democracy that is both dignified and accountable, rather than one that leans towards autocracy.

“The alternative to democracy is not monarchy; that is a misconception. It is clear to everyone that the public does not desire autocratic rule in place of democracy. Instead, they seek a democratic system that includes a king,” he stated.

Thapa also referenced examples from various nations, such as Britain, Japan, and Norway, where a democratic system coexisting with a monarchy has thrived. He urged true democrats to embrace the idea of a monarch, advocating for a democracy that prioritizes accountability and respect.

His comments come at a time when discussions regarding the monarchy's role in Nepal are intensifying, with monarchist sentiments gaining traction in different political and social circles.
